Class B · Driver’s handbook
B class license allows to drive motorized vehicles with three or more wheels to be used for private transportation of persons, with a capacity up to nine seats, excluding the driver's seat, or cargo whose gross vehicle weight is up to 3,500 kilograms, such as automobiles, small trucks and vans. The Class B driver's license allows you to drive your car with a light trailer, which weight does not exceed the tare weight of the vehicle, and the total weight cannot exceed 3,500 kilograms.
Requirements for B class driver's license
- Have Chilean identity card (RUN).
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Basic education graduate.
- If you are 17 years old, you can apply for this license, as long as you have passed a course in a Driving School and have authorization from your parents, guardians or legal representatives.

- Moral Suitability
- Required. Personal background check, by the Traffic Director of your municipality.
- Medical exam
- Required. Evaluation in the municipality.
- Theoretical exam
- Required. Is given only once.
- Practical exam
- Required. Is given only once.
What is the practical exam?
The practical exam consists of two stages: Free driving and guided driving.
In the first part, the applicant must go to a destination without receiving instructions from the examiner, to the point of destination that has previously agreed with the examiner. The points of origin and destination are defined by the municipality and are public knowledge. On the day of the exam you will define with the examiner a destination point within the available options.
After completing the free driving stage, the examiner will give the instructions to return to the point of origin
The practical test must take at least 25 minutes and must travel at least 5 kilometers (both conditions must be met).

The courses for B class are regulated by Decree Number 39 of 1985 of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, Vice Ministry of Transport.
Driving course for B class
The driving course to obtain B class license is not mandatory. However, if you are 17 years old, you can apply for this license provided you have approved a course in a Driving School and have authorization from your parents, guardians or legal representatives.
Requirements:
- Vision test, taken by driving school.
- Be at least 17 years old.
Minimum duration of the course:
8 pedagogical hours of theoretical lessons and 12 pedagogical hours of practical lessons
Who gives the course:
This course can be taught both by Non-Professional Driving Schools and by Professional Driving Schools that have approved the teaching program in the Vice Ministry of Transport. Non-Professional Driving Schools, in addition, must have authorization from the municipality, so you can ask them the status of the school you want to attend.
